Learning Science Through Mushroom Growing

Objectives (customizable) Introduces students to the fungal kingdom as they explore diversity in the Primary 3 Science syllabus. Students will learn what exactly is a mushroom, how it differs from plants, as well as the importance of food security & growing their own food. This workshop offers a hands-on experience, teaching participants how to create effective and safe cleaning products using simple ingredients. | Duration: 1-1.5hours Learn how to turn kitchen waste into powerful and sustainable cleaning solutions. This interactive session will guide you through the process of creating eco enzymes, offering a practical and eco-friendly approach to waste reduction and household cleaning. | Duration: 1.5hours over 3 sessions Learn about general waste and its effects on the environment, before delving into food waste and how we combat it. Students will be exposed to different methods of reducing and reusing food waste, as well as the operational flow of the food composter. There will be activities in the programme to enhance the curriculum and allow students to have hands-on experience in learning about and combating food wastage. They will also be able to observe the effects of compost on plant growth. | Duration: 1.5-2 hours Learn how to make a simple DIY pet bottle composter for home composting. Experience growing your own vegetables using seeds and planter boxes and witness the growth of plants through this 1-1.5hour hands-on enrichment activity.
Food Waste Management
The food waste management workshop is conducted across 3 -lessons of 1.5hours each, and it aims to educate students on environmental science and sustainability. Students will be able to learn and what is waste & understand the impact of food waste on the environment.
